Summer Fiber

 

The summer is here! Days are longer, the nights are best spent outdoors and the temperature is the highest of the year. With the heat, come lighter meals and snacks. Nothing is more refreshing than fresh fruit in the middle of these sweltering days and nothing satisfies quite like cold crisp lettuce in a salad. If you think that you are not a fruit or veggie lover, maybe this year is different. After all, summer is the best time to try new things!

 

Most of summer's fresh fruits and vegetables are low on the glycemic index because they are high in fiber. In other words, these are the foods that not only help you lose weight, but also reduce the risk of heart disease, keep you feeling full longer, and re-fuel carbohydrate stores after warm-weather exertion. For nutritious, low-glycemic summer fruits, think watermelon, musk melon, tomatoes, kiwi, and all kinds of berries. As for healthy summer veggies, give cucumber, yellow summer squash, Brussels sprouts, garden-fresh lettuce, or radishes a try. So head on out to your local farmer's market and stock up on the life-giving summer harvest foods. Your body will love you for it!

Gretchen Bond after photoHi. I'm Gretchen Bond and I live in Columbus, Ohio. Since coming to Positive Changes Hypnosis I have lost 36 pounds and have dropped 5 sizes from a size 12 to a size 2! My very first week on the program I lost 3 ½ pounds, 12 pounds my first month and my weight loss continued steadily throughout my program.

 

I had been overweight forever; at least that's how it felt. I was an active child and played sports, but I have a very clear memory of being in eighth grade and the boys on my bus calling me 'fatty.' That really struck a chord with me and from that point on, from the age of 13, I started "dieting". I don't have to do that anymore because this program is not a diet. To me, a diet means deprivation and that's not what Positive Changes is about.

 

Like almost everyone else who needs to lose weight, I had tried every kind of diet you can imagine. I tried to eat only beets, the grapefruit diet and any other weight loss plan you can think of.
