Eat Adventurously!

The summer is finally here! Days are longer, the nights are best spent outdoors and the temperature is the highest of the year. With the heat, come lighter meals and snacks. Nothing is more refreshing than fresh fruit in the middle of these sweltering days and nothing satisfies quite like cold crisp lettuce in a salad. If you think that you are not a fruit or veggie lover, maybe this year is different. After all, summer is the best time to try new things!

Most of summer's fresh fruits and vegetables are low on the glycemic index because they are high in fiber. In other words, these are the foods that not only help you lose weight, but also reduce the risk of heart disease, keep you feeling full longer, and re-fuel carbohydrate stores after warm-weather exertion. For nutritious, low-glycemic summer fruits, think watermelon, musk melon, tomatoes, kiwi, and all kinds of berries. As for healthy summer veggies, give cucumber, yellow summer squash, Brussels sprouts, garden-fresh lettuce, or radishes a try. So head on out to your local farmer's market and stock up on the life-giving summer harvest foods. Your body will love you for it!

After Picture of Brett PetroMy name is Brett Petro and I live in Westerville, Ohio. I am a business analyst who has lost 79 pounds and 8 inches off my waist thanks to Positive Changes Hypnosis. The first week in my program I lost an astonishing 7 pounds and in the first month I lost around 16 pounds. My weight loss was quick and easy. I haven't weighed what I weigh today for 30 years-- when I graduated from college. That's a great feeling.

I wasn't hugely overweight until the last 10 years, but I was carrying more weight than I should have for many years before that. A recent study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition referred to growing prevalence of obesity in Mediterranean countries. Rather than recommending decreases in fat intake through diet, they say the “evidence supports the major role of sedentarism on higher rates of obesity in Mediterranean countries.” In other words, the other half of the weight control equation is exercise.    read more >
