Successful Holiday Slimming

Most people would not say holidays and slimming in the same sentence, and for good reason; researchers say that the average American gains seven pounds over the holidays. Fortunately, as a Positive Changes client, you know how to keep your weight in check, even while enjoying the tasty holiday fare. You understand that the key is moderation, healthy food choices, and a good strong dose of positive mental imaging. Now that you’re off the diet merry-go-round, you no longer need to think of the holidays as a deprivation nightmare. Rather, it’s a time to recognize the positive new self-image you’ve created and to acknowledge how far you’ve come!

Here are some easy tips to help you continue slimming through the holidays without missing out on the fun.

  1. Your first and most important step is to continue attending your scheduled appointments. You deserve this time to yourself and the relaxation will help you tame the holiday stress monster.
  2. Before attending any social event where an abundance of food is present, nourish your body first with a small whey protein shake or protein bar. You can count on protein to decrease your appetite and chase away your cravings.
  3. Keep in mind that your sense of taste is one of your body’s appetite regulators. When your taste buds have had enough stimulation from a certain food, they send a signal to the brain that you experience as fullness. Therefore, the fewer items you choose, the quicker you will feel full and satisfied. Choose wisely and you will literally eat less and feel more satisfied!
  4. Don't dwell on it if you overindulge. Think of it as an opportunity to later over-indulge on fitness.
  5. Finally, be sure to relax and enjoy yourself. After all, it is the holidays!

Carol Stopa after photoMy name is Carol Stopa. I live in Worthington, Ohio and I work at OSU Medical Center as an office associate.
