Q: What do you think of the South Beach Diet™?
A: The South Beach Diet falls somewhere between the Atkins® diet and the Zone® diet. What I like about Dr. Agatston’s approach is that he suggests natural carbohydrates rather than no carbohydrates or very few, as Dr. Atkins did. He also suggests the use of healthy fats rather than the “any and all fats are OK” philosophy that’s been promoted in recent years.
On the other hand, exercise, and specifically the combination of aerobic exercise with weight training, is a key to life-long weight loss. Unfortunately, the South Beach Diet devotes only two pages of the book to this very important subject.
So, the South Beach Diet is just that – another diet program that’s a quick fix for America’s growing obesity epidemic and its related health problems. It falls short of what’s really needed. That’s where Positive Changes comes in. Positive Changes is a program that results in a lifestyle change that will assure leanness, fitness, stress management and great health for years to come.
