Bouncing on a small trampoline (known as a rebounder) is a simple and effective way to stimulate the lymph and improve your all-round health. Rebounding can relieve tension, increase energy and vitality, lower cholesterol levels, increase resistance to disease, and improve circulation and respiration. Bouncers find they shift into their ideal weight and streamline their bodies. Balance coordination, and stamina all improve.
It's not just wishful thinking: a study in New Zealand found that rebounding improved resting heart rate in 91 per cent of participants and blood pressure in 50 per cent of participants. Even more interesting were the less quantifiable benefits: improved ability to handle stress, increased feelings of wellbeing, more energy, as well as greater resistance to colds and flu.
Many of these bouncing benefits come about because bouncing is, without doubt, one of the very best ways of stimulating the lymphatic system and flushing away toxins. It's the perfect workout for your lymph. The up and down movement provides an acceleration-deceleration effect which in turn changes the force of gravity in your body. This puts the lymphatic and blood circulation systems under intense rhythmic pressure which stimulates the dumping of wastes from all the cells.
Best of all rebounding is fun. For those of you who hate the idea of exercising in public - or hate the very idea of exercising at all - get a rebounder. Put on some music (or if you're a TV addict put your rebounder in front of the set) and just bounce. You'll probably be surprised at how quickly you find yourself out of breath — bouncing is tougher than it looks.
But at the end of a session you should feel incredible - bounding with energy while every muscle in your body feels stretched and toned. It also affects the mind and spirit. Bouncing connects you with a childlike sense of fun - it can energize and revitalize your whole being.
NOTES & CAUTIONS
Rebounding is a remarkably safe form of exercise. However, check with your medical practitioner to make sure rebounding is right for you. Wear loose and comfortable clothing. Bare feet are best but don't wear slippery shoes, socks, or tights.
